Excuse me, how much?? get that money...

We've all been there.  You go somewhere and you know how much you always pay.  That coffee shop that has that latte you love, that breakfast spot that makes you weekly cheese denvers...  You know how much it is.  Then one day, the price goes up.  What?!  Do you feel like you've been taken off guard?  Do you feel a little silly when you have to dig in your wallet for more change cause you thought you had the exact amount?  It's weird.

Well we're raising some prices at the shop and even with our best intentions of signs and posts, we're sure to not have informed everyone.  I know that someone will slip through the cracks and be a little taken off guard by the change.

Why do prices go up anyways?  There's always the obvious 'inflation'.  Business expenses go up so the price goes up.  Product prices go up so the service price goes up.  Employees get raises and, oop, prices go up.  I can say for our shop that when we do increase prices in services it's for a myriad of things.  I would like our loyal clients to know that when prices go up at Freshair, we want to make sure that you are not feeling at all that it's for nothing.  We aim to increase customer services, product selection, and overall experience for anyone who does choose to spend their hard-earned money in our business.  We value your opinions and support, and because of you, we aim to be better, always.

I have been styling hair for almost 15 years and have a license and a lovely clientele and I always make sure that I keep up with training and educating myself.  This year, for the first time ever, I will be changing my schedule to accommodate my growing family.  My prices will be going up in June and I anticipate that I may lose some clients because of less availability and higher prices.  I urge anyone who is struggling with higher prices to chat with your stylist about it.  It's okay to ask why.  It's your money and you should feel comfortable when you have to part with it.  If your stylist is becoming too expensive but you love the shop you go to you can discuss it with your stylist.  They may be able to refer you to someone else who does great work at a lower rate.  Think of it as paying for experience.  Someone who has had their hands in many heads of hair for over 20 years has probably seen it all and may have a solution to most hair issues, adversely, someone who has had their hands in heads for 5 years may do a great job as well.  The clincher is the experience and the expertise.

Just because I have been cutting hair for over 14 years doesn't mean I've NEVER had someone call back and complain, or tell me their cut was crooked, or thought I was bunk.  It happens.  I'm human.  My skin has gotten very thick over the years and I've learned not to sweat the small stuff...but I'm still raising my prices! :)

LiLash update...

freshairboutique

So as promised this is my last post on the product LiLash.  I know that my lashes have grown and seem to be fuller but I'm not sure that I would buy this product again.  I ran out of the actual serum a few weeks ago but I think that's cause of the way the bottle is shaped (and I did put the serum on my brows as well). All in all, my lashes grew and seemed fuller.  My brows didn't change at all.  Some people swear by this product.  I had a lady tell me she had to cut her lashes with scissors, they were so long!  I experienced some itching and a bit of a dry eye at night but that was it.

Yeah, that's all I can say I guess.  Maybe try it? Maybe not?

photo 1 photo 2**By the way, my eyebrows are beefed up a bit....

Believe me.

Easter long weekend is now in the books.  What did you do these past few days?  Did you celebrate Easter?  You go to church with your family like I did, or did you just enjoy the time off work?  Do you in believe in Easter and what it means?  Are you one that has no beliefs? While I was in church yesterday I began thinking about beliefs.  Some people believe in God, others in Buddha, some in science.  Many people believe in nothing at all, and in my opinion, isn't that a belief?  Why do we have to believe?  Why can't we just live and carry on?  Why do we need to have to look to something to make sense of our lives?

Being human is just that.  We need to be able to make sense of the life we lead and use believing to help us.  I guess religions or spirituality of any kind does that.  It helps us focus on something that we can't really understand so we spend time attempting to better our lives in the hopes of attaining 'something'.  If you believe in nothing then the 'attaining' is pointless and you make your life decisions on the now and how you want to live, now.

I'm not saying I have all the answers or that I even know what I'm talking about, but I do know that 30 years ago religion/spirituality was more entwined with our daily lives.  Believing in things seemed to be so much easier then, than now.  I wonder why that is?  It's probably the internet... I blame the internet for many things, but that's for another time, believe me.

Because I'm happy...

tumblr_mgl9xlZaig1r6mnq4o1_1280Here we are again!  Monday!  The  beginning of the work week.  The beginning.  There are so many people who don't love Mondays (I am one).  I feel like it's just another beginning of a week that I'll be tired from by the end of the week...

Because I'm 'type A', I usually use this day to get my week in order.  My meals are decided upon, my laundry is done, the beds get made and I run errands and go to appointments.  Because I'm Praise, I like things laid out easily so that the week will go by smoothly (it doesn't always work)...

JOY!

Because I'm a human being, I take too much time in concerning myself with things that sometimes don't matter.  Because I'm happy, I'm going to face this week with gusto and fervor!  It's going to be a great week (plus I think we're getting weather in the double digits!)

YOU THINK YOU KNOW, BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA.... valen1I'm just going to rant for a teeny bit ( not too long...).  Last night I went to see Off the Beaten Path: Women, Violence and Art at the WAG.  It was very intense and made me think of many, many things... Most of all I thought about WOMEN.  What a special group of people we are! I mean, seriously!  I applaud all of us and I'll say that I don't acknowledge our gender enough.

We do so much on a day-to-day basis and even if you aren't a wife or mother, you're probably a sister or daughter so you still qualify to be great!  I am a woman who wears many hats but it seems to me that I receive the most praise (no pun intended) for the things I have become and not the person/woman I am.  Before I was a wife and a mother and a business owner, I was just a girl, a young woman, Praise.  No one seemed to tell me how fabulous I was then...

Fast forward many years, and after the mother/wife label I'm all of a sudden soooo much better than the Praise I was?  I mean, okay, my life has become more complicated but I think we should hi-five all the ladies, single ones and married ones.  Let's send a shout-out to the mothers and the non-mothers, let's give a hip-hooray for the full-time working chicks and the ones that don't get paid to work.  We need to focus on supporting each other even if we don't have the 'proper titles' yet.  The fact that we are women is reason enough to celebrate us.

do you cook?

Don't hesitate to support or complement a lady you know.  No matter what she does, or how she lives, she could use some encouraging words.  We all can.  That's the fresh perspective...

Friday Kits...

freshairboutique

I've been compiling my Friday outfits for a few years now and thought I should share some with you.  If you follow us on twitter, Instagram or Facebook you will notice that Fridays are when I post a wee bit more about myself... Namely the clothes on my body, the style of my hair or the expression of my face (the face thing is new... I'm trying something out on Facebook...) Friday's face... (only on Facebook)

Here are five images of  my Friday kits, in no particular order and for no specific reason, except for I think I really nailed these!!  Ha!  Enjoy!

I love my hair in this one, and the men's shirt?! Get outta here!

Simple t-shirt... Simple.

The top-knot and blazer here is perfect. The hoops are a nice touch as well.

Color! I love the colors and the Tony Chestnut scarf.

This one is so funny. I love it because of my Reebok pumps.... Also I think the cardi and the men's shirt are the same as the first image!

Well there are a few of my outfits.  I know it seems a bit high and mighty of myself to post these but the jig is up, I'm a a stylist.  I work in the hair and beauty industry.  Fashion is a large part of what we do everyday and I enjoy dressing myself (for the most part).  I think the key is to know yourself, your body type, and your age.  At the same time, don't take it too seriously.  They're just clothes.  I don't let my clothes define me, I use them to express myself, along with my hair, make-up and accessories.

Take pride in your wardrobe and your style.  It's what can add to making you that much more unique!

Peace
