What do you do?

ouuuu expensive…

How often do you wash your car?  Are you good at taking care of your material things?  Large items like your exterior of your home, or your yard, or car/boat?  Do you respect the items in your life and what they do for you or BRING to you?

don’t get these dirty!

We have a very old piano (thanks Mel) and all my kids take lessons so I enjoy the music.  The piano is over a 100 years old so it needs a lot of TLC.  We need to do a series of things to make sure it keeps allowing music to resound.

All of this because I realized it’s been so long since we serviced it and with funds being tight all around, it made me think of all the material things in my life that I need to maintain, like my white car or my old, old piano.

my piano has missing key tops too. still plays

I think I’m going to make a list of those items, cause as I’m writing this, I realize, how many material items do I have that I don’t maintain?  My dining room table needs a whole coat of new paint or at least a refinishing and the oven needs to be cleaned inside and out.

Then there’s the outside of my home. The paint job on the outside is trash. Actually, like it’s falling off… This is going to be a long list.

You have any items you maintain?  Any tips for me?  My car is white and in this time of year, I’m washing it sometimes twice a week.  In the summer the kids do it, but during school (and snow) I’m on my own.

March is upon us and Marie Kondo Netflix special is fired up and ready to play. The best way to start out a new month - especially when exiting the winter blues - is to PURGE! Take some time this weekend to go through your clothes, knick-knacks & all things that are collecting dust or do not serve you any purpose. If you don’t have time to watch the hottest show right now, let me summarize some tips to get you on the fast track to ultimate organization & peacefulness. (You’re welcome). Disclaimer: I may or may not abide by these rules…

Step 1: Make sure everything has a place

Ok, this I can get behind. Nothing is more frustrating that not being able to find something you just put away the day before. Make sure everything has a place and if you can’t find one, maybe you don’t really need it.

Step 2: Get rid of papers

Makes sense. Papers, like old bills, pile up very quickly, many of which you really don’t need at the end of the day. Pull out the shredder!

Step 3: Don’t pile things - store vertically instead

This will make everything easier to find! Extra ambitious? Colour code as well!

Step 4: Only keep items of clothing that bring you joy

Sure? I mean, I guess most of my crew neck t-shirts don’t really bring me too much joy but I still wear them all the time. I’m not too sure about this rule or how to follow this rule… Just get rid of clothes you don’t wear after 6 months to a year (season permitting of course).

Step 5: Keep small change in your wallet

UMM, I disagree! I recommend throwing your small change into a piggy bank because there will come a time when you have some free time and you get to have the joy of organizing & counting all of your coins and small bills. Then, what to do with that money? Treat yourself! I feel so passionate about this one point because I just had a nice little surprise pay day this past weekend when I decided to count mine ;) Thermea here I come.

Important question: When is it time to revamp your fashion?

It's coming up to the busy holiday season followed by a BRAND NEW YEAR. If you're experiencing the following thoughts, you should perhaps consider switching things up.

  • Struggle on the daily to decide what to wear

  • You have more worn out items than fresh items

  • Your 'to-buy' list is 2 pages long

  • You wear the same thing to every event

  • You have things in your closet that you wore when you were 15

This doesn't mean you need to dish out all of your holiday savings to buy all new things for yourself. Here are some suggestions in regards to what you should make sure you have, and how you can make some improvements on a budget.

The Staple Items

  • The favourite denim

  • Basics (classic T, classic sweatshirt...etc.)

  • Cozy winter sweater

  • A “going out” top

  • Every day boot

  • Layering piece (tunic dress, over-sized vest, get creative!)

Invite a friend over (**IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure it’s someone who's style you're in to) and get them to take a peak in your closet. Sometimes all it takes is fresh eyes to put pieces together you never thought of! Try swapping some items with a close friend or head over to your favourite thrift store!

Start the New Year off with a freshened up closet. Get rid of the items just causing clutter and gift yourself a few new treats to put a little pep in your step :). You work hard, this season can get wild, so treat yo'self.

Keep it in the closet?

freshairboutique

So today is August first and I did some serious purging (my closet that is).  I cleaned out our storage closet and took eight bags to Sally-Ann.  It is what it is, it's a long weekend and I cleaned out our storage closet.  It used to be on a long weekend I would have all kinds of social activities and now...closet cleaning... It's funny, the fact that many of us even have a closet only for storing things just tells me that I have a great life.   Most dwellings on earth are miniscule and I'm living in a 1500 square foot home with space for days...

I think that I will clean out my closet again in three months, I feel like once a year isn't enough.   Too much can be stored in 365 days so on November 1st I will purge again!!

Peace
