Malie Organics Body Wash

I'm back with a product review.  Malie Organics is a skin care line we've been carrying for a few years.   I can honestly say that I've been using the body wash exclusively for over six months and am noticing that it is the real deal.  I LOVE moisturized skin and will stop at nothing to keep it soft, supple and fresh.  The wash is moisturizing and freshly scented.  Koke'e's scent is from the Hawaiian plant the Maile vine. It's a little thin but dissolves and spreads quite easily.  I tend to be an over user but a little less is always better...

Apart from making me fresh, clean and moist, any time you purchase a Malie Organics product that uses the Maile vine, 1% of the proceeds goes back to the Koke'e Resource Conservation Program.  So now you're doing a little more!

With the onslaught of information about the (watch the video if you're okay with images of death) catastrophe in Bangladesh, I have really begun to try to learn where my hard-earned money goes.  Buying a $25 lotion over a department store $10 lotion seems a little extravagant, but let me say that the lotion I buy gives back.  The $10 drug store lotion that's massed produced probably does not give back.  This was meant to be a product review and now has turned into a deeper post.

When you spend your money, what does it do after it leaves your hands?  What support does your money provide?  Think about this every time you swipe your debit or visa card.  Researching how your favorite goods and products are produced may seem foreign to some of you and commonplace for others.  If you want to learn more, just ask.  Once you know what your money does after it leaves you, you might think twice about how you spend it.

Kevin Murphy Rinses

Time for a product review folks!  I know, I know, we love Kevin Murphy and it's obvious, but it's also because it's sooooo good.  All of their shampoos come with rinses NOT conditioners.  This is a unique feature available only to Kevin Murphy users.  Simple concept.  You wash your hair, then you rinse it and condition your hair, then you rinse that out.  What?  What was the point of conditioning your hair just to rinse out the conditioner?  You might as well have just dumped your condish down the drain.

Kevin Murphy does not sell conditioners, only rinses.  So here's the deal.  With KM rinses (note: it is a rinse not a conditioner) you apply the rinse to all your locks after you've washed and then you rinse out a third of the product!  Yes!  You leave most of it in, and depending on the type of hair you have, you may not rinse at all!

Now, I personally have never really used conditioner prior to hearing about the KM rinses because I believed that it's not what I put in and rinse out, but what I put in and LEAVE IN that would actually quench my hairs' thirst for moisture.  I would just skip the conditioning all together and go with a leave in because my hair was so dry...

These rinses have the same concept.  You would wash then 'rinse' and then literally rinse for 2-4 seconds and move on.  For you folks that don't like to use styling products these rinses are perfect because when you get out of the shower you could just let your hair dry naturally and call it a day.  DO NOT FRET!  Your hair WILL NOT be greasy if you leave these rinses in.  They are designed to stay in and will be a great base for any other product you would like to use.  If you choose not to add anything else to your hair, that's fine too!  The rinse is a product that will also keep your hair conditioned, soft and healthy.

Kevin Murphy rinses come in a variety of types.  Ask your stylist which one would be best for you and get ready for a whole new condition!  That's the fresh perspective...

Who are your current hair-heroes?

Ann + Nancy Wilson of HEART, have forever been an inspiration to me.Not only are they one of the most ferocious sister duos in the history of all sisters, they can slay your heart through song. I mean, Magic Man? Come on now.

Since cutting bangs about a month ago, I've been looking to the Wilson sisters for a touch of hair-spiration, and as a result of countless hours spent in a youtube wormhole (watch this video to see how ann + nancy made robert plant cry), their Little Queen-era gypsy rock style has been heavily influencing my thrift buys as of late (how much black fringe does a girl really need?? am i really going to wear pointed, studded black boots with this silk kimono??)

In about a weeks time, I will be in the presence of these sublime sisters, and here's what I'll be doing to get the same sleek, rocker hair as the Wilson sisters are sporting. Start off by throwing in a bit of Body Guard to your damp hair will not only offer you a bit of heat protection, but it'll also help to smooth out any dry ends. After you've dried up your coif, throw in a few heavy, flat-iron curls. Spray with a hair spray (we like Session Spray or Glamour Queen) and SHAKE IT OUT! For any fly aways, try taming them down with a tiny touch of an anti-frizz cream, like Anti-Gravity. VOILA!!

Now for those super sexy lash-grazing bangs. NOTHING is better for your bang situation than the Freshair Dry Cleaning Spray. I repeat. NOTHING. I've struggled with bangs for years, and I'm now convinced it was because I didn't have this spray in my life. When your bangs are freshly washed and almost too clean, Freshair will give them a bit of extra grit and lift, which in turn takes them a bit off your forehead, thus avoiding greasy pizza face. Then, as the days wear on, a little spritz of this stuff will ensure that no questionable looks of 'did you just crawl out of an oil slick?' be directed towards you.
