New year, new me?
Rolling into another year - literally after all the snacks I ate…
Praise & I had started a gym regime back in November, so I knew it was right back at it as soon as the holiday break was wrapped up. I went into holidays with high ambition, but quickly canceled my classes as each day went on. I mean, let’s be realistic, everybody needs a break.
I joined a gym called Yoga Public, which I’ve been a member before. It is THE best. To be fair, I haven’t really given many other places a chance. But the trainers, class variety, amenities and atmosphere make this gym a place I really look forward to visiting.
Typically people start the New Year off with unrealistic expectations & goals. You see the gyms fill up for a quick two week spurt then it all goes back to normal. I think that we need to be sure we’re being fair to ourselves, our schedules & our overall happiness. Start slow, increase as you feel necessary. I always tend to go to the extreme when I first start something, but have learned that in the end it’s not helping me at all. All that does is lead to burnout.
This year, I’m hoping to try new things in my fitness “journey” or whatever you want to call it. I’ve always been a runner, and look forward to doing the half marathon with a friend of mine in June for the first time. Praise wants to join Pan Am boxing for a couple months, so I have to give that a shot too! My Fitual just opened up right near us, and their lagree machines look like they’d give a killer workout - go check it out online, it looks very challenging but fun in a sick way. That’ll be added to the list as well. The thing that makes it the most fun in my opinion, is finding yourself a good gym buddy. Yeah the workouts may be tough, but you have to go through it together and laugh at the end when your legs are jelly. And if you’re looking to laugh during the class, find a buddy like Praise who grunts/groans to get her way through some of the toughest moves haha (I’m sure she’ll thank me for this little tidbit).
On that note, does anybody have any recommendations on fun new things to try?
