NAIL SHAPES

When it comes to shaping your nails, there's more options than you think.  Do you know what kind of shape you like?  Here's a great, simple photo to give you an idea...

It is always helpful to the aesthetician for you to have an idea of what you like!  Or perhaps, what your goal is.  Keep in mind the condition of your current nails and the shape they go in naturally.  A great aesthetician will guide you in the right direction or towards what would suit you best.  There's definitely phases of what's in and what isn't.  For example, stiletto/extremely long, wacky, and pointed nails have been a HUGE hit these days.  That doesn't mean we all have to rock the superstar look.  A perfectly shaped oval nail is always a classic.  Or maybe you use your hands a ton and you have great long nail beds.  In that case, maybe a nice short squoval or rounded nail is best.  Those are just a few little tips and tidbits for you to get the best shape possible.

LADY CRUSH

We are all guilty of having a celebrity crush.  Whether we like to admit it or not.  My crush of the moment is miss Cara Delevingne.  Her style screams attitude and confidence.  A sort of simplified/ladylike grunge.  She definitely seems to have an aesthetic of her own, which is incredibly alluring.  It's a complete package.  It is important to develop a look of your own but I love getting inspiration from other people.  Here are a few of my favourite looks of hers...

Who doesn't love a burger every now and then?  If only we could all look as good as she does while chowing down on one...  But hey, nice nails!

NAILS, NAILS, NAILS.

We all love getting a good manicure, but who are we kidding...we are almost more excited to show them off afterwards.  Taking photos of freshly painted nails can be a tricky thing.  You want to show if not all of the fingers, at least most of them.  Fingers can be some of the toughest and most stubborn models I know, ha!  I always have a good giggle with my friends and clients when I ask them to pose for pictures.  Whether you're taking photos of your own work, or someone else's, my best suggestion is just to keep them relaxed and take a number of photos.  It usually doesn't happen on the first shot, so don't get discouraged.  The beauty of photography, is that you can edit and crop almost everything.  Good lighting and background are also key points.

This industry is booming.  The "nail and beauty" industry that is.  At almost every corner, on every busy street here in Winnipeg you can find either a spa or nail salon it feels like.  So what separates each business from each other?  Atmosphere, customer service, and of course a damn good treatment.

What are you looking for in your local nail salon?  I can't tell you what you want, but I can sure as heck tell you what you can expect from myself at Freshair Boutique...

First and foremost, I want you leaving ten times happier than when you came in.  I want you to have healthy, and eco-friendly options (yet we all need a little jazzy jewel/nail art once in a while, right?).  I want you to become educated about the well-being and at home maintenance of your skin, nails, hands& feet.  Open communication is key so we can achieve the best end result possible.  For example, eyebrow waxing.  This can be a tricky situation for those growing out process.  But guess what?  I'm here for ya.  Every single step of the way.  All in all, I want you to have the freshest and best experience.

I love my job and what I do.  I love the ladies I work with.  I love my clients.

BEAUTY.

what does 'beauty' mean to you?

I'm going to throw two 'definitions' at you.  The first from Oxford dictionaries online (the world's most trusted dictionaries).  The second being more of a little snippet of info from Wikipedia.

Definition of beauty (Oxford Dictionaries)

Noun (plural beauties)

• [mass noun] a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.

As for the second, I'd rather give you Wikipedia's version of human beauty.

The characterization of a person as “beautiful”, whether on an individual basis or by community consensus, is often based on some combination of inner beauty, which includes psychological factors such as personality, intelligence, grace, politeness, charisma, integrity, congruence and elegance. 

In our world (especially our workplace of hair dressing and aesthetics), we can often get caught up with how we look on the outside.  True beauty comes from within.  Be confident with yourself and what you have been given.  Don't take it for granted.

One of the greatest perks of my job as an aesthetician is being able to help bring out that confidence in clients.  I believe the spa and salon industry should be more about self-care, pampering and those amazing little pick-me-ups.  Having each and every one of my clients leave happier than when they came in, is truly rewarding.

Sometimes we need to take a step back, look in the mirror and just smile.  We are ALL beautiful in our own way.  Imperfection is beautiful.  Individuality in an incredible gift we've been given, so let's run with it.
